My name is Encarni, I’m a Spanish volunteer and I am living in Salzburg, Austria since september.
I work in “KECK” project, with “Kinderfreunde”, an organization that works with children, especially, immigrants and refugees .My work with my organization consist in organized some activities with the children, in order to allow them to learn about some skills like share, healthy habits, empathy… and at the same time they can play and have fun with us.
I play with them in many ways, for example football, volleyball, balance, creativity and all kind of handcrafts. We try to improve solidarity between children and also, support them.
I don’t work inside a building, but outside, in different parks around the city where almost of the population are immigrants, and we invite all the children to have fun with us.
I think that work outside is better for the children, because they have more possibilities to enjoy and express their feelings. They are more free.
Also, all Wednesdays, I work in a youth center, “Corner”, with another volunteer, and we play board games, billiard, table football…and we also support them doing their homework.
Now I live in a city very different to my natal one, and I’m fall in love with it. Is small, but has very beautiful places to visit, and many cultural things to do.
With this experience I learn a lot, a new culture, I improved my English and I started to learn German. I developed skills like work in group, I learnt to have patience, to share, to be independent, and also, I meet a lot of interesting people that contributes to my mental maturity, and I have fun with them.
For me, this is the best experience in my life because I can help people having fun, at the same time that I learn about life. I recommend to all people that want have a great experience in his life, do the European Volunteer Service, is impossible regret.
